There used to be a great secondhand clothes shop in Jocelyn Square, run by a couple of elderly brothers. Can't remember the name of it but they used to supply Flip and people like that wholesale. You'd see something in their shop for a couple of quid one day and thirty in Flip the next week. It was a great source of mod-type suits and stuff like that for pennies in the 80s :D

Their address was 107 Saltmarket, which is halfway down on the left hand side from Glasgow Cross, just before Steel Street

I have a notion that that is where I used to buy my woollen overcoats and demob suits from. Pay no more than a tenner :) . No belt loops, but buttons for braces.

There is a photo of the shop on here somewhere. If I find it before you do I will post a link.

City Cash Tailors - I think they had a couple of shops around the saltmarket and Trongate area.

Crazy House - I seem to remember it had some kind of models on display upstairs.

Chelsea Boy

Jack the Lad (I remember buying a pair of waffle trousers and a ski jumper there, with my first pay packet)

I also remember buying jeans from a shop, upstairs in Virgin Records, Union St. I think it was called Thrifty's.

Every where from paddy's market for playwear to jack the lad for school wear.
I would have to take pelters at school because my playwear was usually sourced at Paddy's but knew full well where their mothers got their stuff from so it never bothered me too much.

Besides I was a typical 70/80's kid usually a bit grubby with the erse hanging out the trousers where I got snagged on the barbed wire exploring.

Though my mother usually did her own knitting....Hated the Icelandic jumper phase she and loads of others went through in the 80's

That reminds me of the old bit of grafitti - "My mother made me a homosexual" under which someone else had written "if I get her the wool would she make me one too?" ::):
