Well,

It seems that people really do care about commercial status and one up man ship (sigh).
My mum took us to Paddy's Market for clothes as kids and I wonder why more people don't buy second hand clothes for their kids. We were poor, and do you know what? I wouldn't have it any other way. I'm so proud of where I came from and what we have overcome.
Our house always smelled of bleach and disenfectant, but my mum was never a snob, we loved meeting the characters in Paddy's market and the kindness of solidarity of people who "know" what the really important things in life are.
"These" are the blessings of life, that no well cut and tailored suit of post modern aspirations could ever aspire to. Bring back the reality of the human spirit and you're welcome to your coffee houses and art galleries.
Oh Dear Glasgow, how much I love you - founded in spiritual wealth and so forgotten are the values of life that really matter. Little wonder that people are so stressed and unhappy.
Humility; love and unconditional friendship - the modern commercial world destroys all of these things. Get where its at, and stop worrying what people think about you! Got to Paddy's market and ENJOY IT!

Cat,

i was talking about where YOU bought your clothes from. I was kitted out by Big Delia at the Barras as a child and many other stalls at the briggat. When I got my first job ( aged 13- Glenmore, Balmore Road) I decided I wanted new clothes because I was tired of people making fun of me at school because my shoes were very obviously not new . Kids are baaad.

As a teenager, I wore loon pants bought from an advert in the NME, or cheap jeans with big inserts in the side seam to make them really
w-i-d-e, and tie-dyed T-shirts made in my mum's washing machine (sorry, mum). I also had a school uniform jacket that a girlfriend gave me. Later, I had a really wide-striped grey suit from Paddy's that would have looked at home on George Melly. Never really been into labels or named shops.

Stirling's? - it was a dusty place where Princess Square now is - especially got taken there for school uniforms - but they also sold denims and other clothes. They sold other stuff too - it was a bit like Croketts, but with clothes.
