This is in the latest issue of the Glaswegian (page 11)
http://www.glasgow.gov.uk/parksreview

They can start making it safe for all, get the Park wardens back.
Safe play areas for children.
Bring back the band stands for small gigs in the summer.

Don’t sell the land to developers.
Get the locals involved.
Spend money wisely...(don’t get f**kin' consultants in.)

Just make it safe all year round

Postby skintobalinto » Thu Apr 08, 2004 9:52 pm

Here here Foss, lets reclaim our parks from Buckie swilling neds and dog owners who don't clean up the mess from their dogs.

clean up and properly utilise what was one of Glasgows best assets - our parks

Have to agree with all of the above. Anyone remember when the used to have big displays in the parks in the late 70's, Queens Park used have one every year IIRC with the Army showing off there big guns, tanks and rockets and pipe bands etc! Oh! and the obligatory Square Walls Icecream Cone doing swift business!! and there may have been a Red Setter dog running around the park foaming at the mouth scaring the shit out of us kids...... Rabies?? ::):

Fossil , You are so right.
No band stands left, bowling greens used as football pitches,When was the last time you felt safe walking through a Glasgow park,If we cant afford parkies, why not extend the city center warden scheme ?

Think we should cut out the consultant/middleman and do our own evaluation of all the public parks in Glasgow. We can grade them accordingly. What do you folks think? get up your local park and give it the once over, you need to be impartial though if this is to succeed.

I dont recall a kelvingrove Park murder then. I do recall the Queens park one though. The fact that the Uni paper was the only one to report it suggests it might not actually be true!

I live at Glasgow Green and they Have the "Park Rangers" they have also issued a couple of them Mountain Bikes. I was chatting to the Head ranger the other day and he was saying that they aren't allowed to tell kids to get off the grass or out the park because they have no rights to do this!! If they want someone removed from the park they have to call the police!!

::): ::):

If you go to Glasgow Green and look for a bin you won't find one!! except along the clyde path. I had my dog over the Green and was looking about for a bin to put the wee bag in and couldn't find one so I spoke to the head honcho and said would it not be more encouraging if there was bins to put the poo in.

He then went on to tell me that they done the whole poop scoop projects a few years ago and the prostitutes were taking the wee bags for their used johnnies!!! ::): ::):

But to answer your question, they kick the owners asses. They used to have to have 2 witnesses to a dog pooing now they only need one.

My dog gets embarrasses pooing in front of anyone!!

Not sure if this was mentioned here before, but did anyone hear about somebody's disemboweled body being found hanging over one of the goalposts in Kelvingrove park recently? It may have been at the end of last year, not sure. I think the only place it was reported was in the Glasgow Uni paper. Apparently there were entrails all the way up to Gibson Street!

"only place it was reported was in the Glasgow Uni paper"

Must be true then. Sounds like a typical w@nky student "story"...Jamie Oliver types with too much time on their hands methinks.

Just recievced the "Glasgow Green Renewal" Newsletter and I am not too sure what this is

"The remains of four underground air raid corridor systems have been removed from the grass space north of the humane Society House.
Three corrior systems have been retained for future restoration. these are located anongst the trees south of the Winter Garden enclosure"

Now does this mean that they will fix em up and let su mere mortals in??
