Yeah, I think they were diverting via Mount Florida. Doesn't happen very often at all, odd to see the big trains winding round the Cathcart Circle.

Got this on ebay this week

Image

purely because it shows the old signal box which used to stand just west of Dalmuir Station. It made the nameless back ally which runs between Dunn Street and Scott Street seem all the spookier when I was young (thanks to that BBC ghost story for Christmas, The Signaman). I was very sad to go be back for a visit a few years ago and the little building had been demolished.

The train destinantion is Airdrie.

Nice picture of a Class 303 with the original wrap round front windows, which were all removed at a later date, when the units were refurbished.

Forgot to mention that the caption stated the picture was shot on June 12, 1962 (obviously on a bit of a gloomy day, weather wise). I suppose the train would have been in the old blue and yellow livery?

This colour pic purports to be 1962 as well, seems to show mostly blue with a thin yellow stripe:

THe wrap around windows were removed in the 1970s and replaced with toughened glass to give drivers better protection following a spate of stone throwing attacks.

The units were not refurbished until the mid 80s which saw the removal of the glass bulkhead between the driving cab and the passenger saloon.

I used to get this train between 1966 and 1974 Bellgrove to Charing Cross.( to school)
I've just noticed the number 15 on the front. What did that signify and did the Springburn bound trains have another?

The number 15 indicates the destination and the type of service/route eg Express, Stopping, Via Singer/ Yoker etc

The left hand number in 1 signifies the destination is either Helensburgh or Airdrie, the right hand number in this case 5 indicates it's a stopping service running via Singer.

This may help to explain

Whilst looking for something else, came upon this
site referring to locomotives being scrapped around
the Coatbridge area.
