Think I will be asking Santa for one of these.....isn't the man great? Has anyone ever met him?

I love that show. But I don't like the idea of 'scene selection' on these DVDs, i'd prefer full length programmes. I've still got a few on video.

Sorry folks to go off topic, but the Tom Weir thing jogged me old fizzog about an English fella who done something similar.

Can anyone remember it, 70's tv (television that is not Marc Bolan), the starting title had a gypsie caravan going down a road accompanied by some big music. I think his name was Cliff somebody or other and the program I'm sure had angle in the title.
Old bloke white beard (aka col Sanders) always in the Shires talking to someone that either made horeshoes or done brass rubbings.
A pint to the person that can name program and the man and put me out my misery.

Cheers Al but nope, heavier set, smoked a clay pipe.
70's telly around lunchtime.
I can see his face, I think the Fast Show ripped him by doing a character called coughing bob flemming.

Jack Hargreaves, and the programme was 'Out of Town' I think.

He also presented 'How?, which is probably why I remember him.

Both were produced by Southern TV, of which he was a director.

I met him once on the path up Ben Lomond early one morning. My impressions were that he was a genuine chap you'd like to chat to for a couple of hours in the pub.

I had nearly forgotten about Jack Hargreaves and "Out of town". I remember one highlight which was "how to skin an eel". What an awful programme. Tom Weir was a jolly little fellow, Old Jack was just dull.

But bear in mind the quality of the material they each had to work with in their respective countries ::):

I've got about 4 VHS tapes of his rambling genius which I plan to convert to DVD. I reckon I'll clean up outside M&S until the polis catch me 'Thersifishull Tam Weir DVDs, 3 furra pound'. :D

There is an official path called Weirs Way starting at Campsie Glen (I think).
You can tell they were having fun on some of those programmes. What about Weirs Aweigh?
Jack Hargreaves was not boring. These things, like Weirs Way, had a different pace and outlook. (See Map Man for irritating editing techniques/presenter). TV is not allowed to take its time anymore. Its like they are scared we will flick away so the pace is relentless. Its boring.

I keep seeing Jimmy watsit, who helmed a similar programme. Although I seem to remember rumours that he was often airlifted to the mountain tops.
a pair of stout boots, a stick, and away...
