In Helensburgh the other week for a funeral. Met up with some of the participants in the Ashton bar and got talking to relatives I've haven't seen for umpteen years, as is the case at funerals. Had my 2 daughters with me (both dahn sarf born) and they were chatting to relatives their own age, subject got down to drink and habits north and south of the border. After most of them left at the end of the evening, one of them came back and presented my daughter with a half bottle of Buckie, announcing it as a pressie from Helensburgh. After the 'thank you, you shouldn't have bothered' bit, cue dad instructing daughter about the water of the devil
Just as well I have brought them up well to drink good beer.
Anyway I've never understood the rite of passage thing with Buckie - it is cheaper to get inebriated with the industrial cider available in 3 litre bottles.

A butcher in N.I. is making pasties containing a drop or two of Buckfast.
They are made in Lurgan where the drink is known by some locals as Lurgan Champagne

buckfast sales go down as Eldorado starts to fly off the shelves as they are now doing tonic wine at a much lower price than the buckie.

According to an article last year the English put 'Buckfast' into cocktails.

Perhaps I'm the only one on here didn't know this until today.
