I confused a jakey outside the Red Bridge chippy in the 'Brig by lecturing him on why he should be drinking LD with his fish supper and not Bucky.

"White wine with fish, red with black pudding and mince pies, OK?"

I dunno - I'm one of the few from Coatbrig who've never tried either!

My impressions of LD were formed by adverts in my youth like this one from the front of a 60s Daily Record;

And while we're at it, Lannie was mentioned upthread;

My dad had the Treble Two bar in Abercrombie St. in the 70s. Lanliq and Eldorado were sold from the gantry by the glass (a half gill) and were considered "respectable" drinks, sometimes being referred to as Gallowgate Brandy .......... "Gie's a Gal son".
They were certainly one step up from the disgusting British Sherry which we sold from decanters by the gill. A gill of rid or a gill of clear was the order. We had to change the corks on the decanters every 6 weeks as the fumes rotted them.
If any of you folks remember the telly show Nationwide, and remember the chef doing demonstrations - his name was/is Kurt Freidli and he used L D in his trifle.

Haven't seen one for ages, but when I mentioned it a while back, someone told me they weren't/couldn't be sold any longer. Is that true?

i think you'd need to ask for a special and a cider on their own and perform your own mixology to it. snakebite of tennents and blackthorn is actually quite nice, or with a soupcon of blackcurrant for a pint of diesel. but i'd never touch special brew mixed with k...is k still available? whne i was young(er) 'a the daft burdz would drink it giving rise to its nickname of 'leg opener'

K is available. Even has its own Facebook.

Working in Coatbridge one Saturday,we popped into the pub for a pint and a bowl of stovies.New member of staff (female) got chatting,turns out it's her 1st time bartending in "Lanarkshire",the supporter's bus mob start to arrive just as we are leaving to return to work.We finish and adjourn to same pub,supporters have gone.She is looking decidedly frazzled ,and wondering why they don't put Buckie in gallon bottles, cos of the number of times she's had to change the bottles on the rows of optics.Of which only 3 were spirits!

Buckie and the like are only derided because...it gives some poeple a great opportunity to take a poke at others, usually people less fortunate in life, who are there by choice or not, so what!...it's cheap and sounds like it takes shite. Some of you most expensive wines are just as unpalateable...it's all a matter taste...and I mean whether you like the taste of it or not........and snobbery. :P

Aye, Lucky Numbers as it was known. I got my first guitar (A Hofner Verithin) When my dad bought a pawn ticket for 3 quid and a bottle of Lucky Numbers. It cost 15 quid to redeem the guitar, (plus a Hofner Diplomat and an amplifier). A great bargain.
