Cumberland St Station

Postby downward_spiral » Wed Aug 24, 2005 11:25 pm

Hi,

I always remember this place from when I was a kid and I'd be taken in the car through Glasgow; we'd go underneath the huge blue girder bridges, and round at the freightliner terminal there would normally be a railfreight grey 37 sitting at the bufferstops.

Are any parts of the station or the bridges still there? I remember our milkcrate friends had a feature on the station itself. Is it still accessible?

What about the freightliner terminal?

Cheers,

David

Just post them. If anyone objects then remove them.

Gushetfaulds Freightliner Terminal. An official British Railways Photograph published to accompany an article in the 1968 Locospotters Annual. It is the only one I have ever seen of the Depot.

Do the milk crate pics bring back anyone else's memories of the installation that was featured inside the station on Door's Open Day a few years back?

Vistors were allowed in to wander around the ruined interior to see various features installed around the area.

It was all very surreal, as they were quite imaginative, and the only lighting the organisers provided was from (not vary many) candles placed around the space.

Yes, you were warned and told you were entering at your own risk, though they did tidy much of the debris off the floor where visitors were likely to walk.

Nice - very nice... Can you spill the beans about HOW you got in there to take them pics in the first place?...

Sorry to go completely off topic for a second but I used to work with Paul Garner (who drew the Pics James H has just posted). Strange to have his pictures crop up here ::):

Sorry, as you were....

Well... if you had a ladder on you then I'm sure you could climb in the first floor window round the back of the station. But that would be cheating!

The adventurous approach involves a long walk that starts with hacking your way through bushes that run alongside the old freight terminal!
