Under the old registration plate system, M-reg was, I think, Aug 73-July 74. That car carrying the M-reg plate (Is that a Hillman Hunter or some such thing?) looks fairly newish, so not too long after that I think.

Almost certain it's a Hillman Hunter...

I think it was around about 1975 the GGPTE changed the colour of the buses from the old green/orange livery to the green/white/orange you can see on the bus departing to the left. Might help narrow things down a tad

That Ford van looks like it could have The Sweeney in the back waiting to ambush a gang of blaggers about to do a bank! ::):

Send the registration number to DVLA in Swansea and find out who owned the car. Maybe he could then tell ye what the date is. 8O

Do a CSI-style mega zoom in on the dashboard of that parked Transit. There must be a rolled-up copy of The Sun next to the inevitable bottle of Cream Soda.

CSI is the best show!!

i'm just waiting on season 4 box set on dvd, then i can watch all the gruesome bits slowed down again!!

the only thing i dont like it the fake timescale on the crimes.

anyways - i think the pic is late 70's

I'd guess late 70's too. Perhaps about 78 or 79.

The first car I can ever remeber my dad driving was a Ford Escort just like the one in the picture.

Yep, Its definately one of the "Arrow" range Hillman Hunter's circa 1973-74(going by the plate). These cars were crap. My Father, Uncle and Grandfather built them at Linwood. He told me the quality control was terrible. Never mind, when the factory went to the wall the management blamed the Scottish workforce. Even now when the whole debacle is raised in the classic car press "we" get the blame for the failure of the factory and there is never any mention of the fact that the Linwood workers were paid considerably less than their Coventry counterparts.
