yes, there's loads of them there just now, presumably to be removed once whatever they're building gets completed

An article in to-days (Glasgow) Evening Times by Graeme Murray outlines the use of a 23 story high rise building in Cumberland St ,Gorbals to be lit up for a while prior to demolition. While the operation is being touted as an art demonstration I see it as advertising and also perhaps politicing. Nevertheless it shows the unlimited potential for hoarding/billboarding. Its a great business opportunity. The Americans have long shown us that you can sell anything even junk if you give it the right advertising spin or the Madison Ave. touch.

Sharon re your post Maybe Glasgow needs a bit of these while not directly related to advertising, an excellent book on the subject "The City is my Canvas" by Richard Haas Prestel publishers, outlines the use of massive murals/paintings not to advertise but to hide eyesore buildings and make them blend in with their surrounding buildings. A considerable amount of this work has been done.

Interesting move by them. You're right its great advertising.

And you're right there is business potential for anyone pushing "creative" advertising.

It appears not everyone is enamoured with advertising via hoardings/billboards and the like as the French have an anti publicity/advertising group with its own (activist) web site http://www.antipub.fr They are anti-globalisers, anti-capatalist and anti-materialism (which is not a bad idea or point of view). From an article in yesterdays Independent.

Everyone seen those cheap digital alarms that can bounce a laser generated 'clock' on the ceiling of your room ??

Well that would be well cool for above the city of Glasgow - the amount of times I've come out of the savoy with my watch stolen and just wished for something like that.

;-)

research ground to a halt ...but will recommence next week. I wll try and note down some bill board rreference numbers for sites that i like, and then call JC Decaux or maiden and get some prices.

As for ideas... "the one" has yet to arrive...

2 caveats will apply:

1. Must not be political.
2. Must contain/provoke humour.
