OS 3D Mapping Software

Postby Pgcc93 » Wed Mar 03, 2004 7:57 pm

Here are a few screenshots of a nice little program that gives you a 3D map of the whole of the UK. Nice :D
This is from the OS Landranger series 1:50 000 scale
But there is also the Explorer 1:25 000 scale for the more discerning map browser!.

Looks really good.

I've had a look at the site and just ordered one of their 'Site Centred Maps'. 12 quid for a 40x40km map centred around the postcode of your choice. That gets you the 1:50,000 map. 1:25,000 maps are launched on the ninth of march, and will cost £29 for the same.

What I would really like is a copy of that weather map they use on Scotland Today Lunchtime News. You know the one with the fly-over terrain. I'm going to get on the blower Monday lunchtime and ask The Gardener during his phone in to burn us a copy

It arrived yesterday morning, no' bad considering I only ordered it thurs afternoon. I've had a quick play about with it, and first impressions are that it's pretty good. The 2d mapping is ok, but the 3D mapping is by far the best. You can plot routes on the maps and have it do a 'fly-over' of the route, either in ground camera mode or aerial camera mode. It also shows a side on height elevation of your route, so ye can see the highest/lowest points of the journey. Very clever.

Huvnae found a way of printing oot the fancy stuff yet, just the 2d maps, but for 12 quid I'm very impressed.

Here's some shots of New Cumnock (My Gran lives there) and the Nith Valley.
*note* I've fannyed aboot with vertical offset settings to make NC look mair like Nepal !! :D *

I'm convinced! I'll be making a purchase also. I downloaded my gps onto it and worked perfectly, apart from the map datum (WGS84) I had the unit set on, was using it with marine charts. So the routes were showing that a boat trip I had made was over some hills :D !!
Switched the GPS over to OS GB datum and it's sorted

AMCD... what the??????

I drove past New Cumnock this morning, and someone's stolen those Alps either side of the road. They looked a bit flat now..... plastic surgery dyou reckon???? If that's what New Cumnock looks like, what the hell does the Glencoe road look like????

I'm off for a look......

Aye.. yer right I was fannying aboot with the 'hill exaggerater' setting.
It's got a setting for adjusting 'vertical offset', just thought it looked a little flat to be showing off 3D software, and I thought naebody would ken New Cumnock anyway. Almost got away with it !! :D

Does anyone have a copy of the Glasgow @ 1:25000 scale?

Only have the sample sheet of the Cowal area as shown. Could be fun linking it up to the GPS!
