Ah cool, virtual travels on the "clockwork orange". Yet
another way to waste valuable time in work.

Thats BVE - there's lots of other routes available for you to waste more time
at work with, including Edinburgh to Eberdeen - takes 2hours 50mins to drive
it. ::):

I'd never heard of any of this? how good are the graphics for BVE? I'm forcing myself not to look at this... I've got too much work to do!

I can see me getting sucked into this one

I would spend hours on it, if the thing didn't keep crashing ... and I mean the software, not the trains! :D

Molendinar graphics are good and the new version
works full screen. Uses DirectX 9 as far as I recall

Vinny, are you using the latest version. It works well
enough on several machines I've used with either
Win2K or WinXP. Could be a problem with some of
the additional files loaded into the BVE directories,
routes etc. can cause bugs.

Running Windaes 2000. The older version of BVE works a bit, but crashes after a couple of minutes ... i.e. at the start, I get as far as about to cross to the Inner Circle, then it freezes. Tried starting from a different station to no avail.

The new version of BVE just doesn't work at all. Doesn't get any further than the BVE splash screen!

Classic response Sharon :P Actually work with a naval
alternative to the train simulator, so no escape for me.
Just like the 3D modelling aspect of the software since
having done my fair share in the background over the
years 8O

Yeah I've got a bee in my bonnet about 3D modelling so I'm going to have to look at it when I get the time. Can you effectively extract teh models from the BVE program? THe tunnel forms and textures?

Overlaying it with model of Glasgow... mmm.. ponder ponder

You can "steal" the textures, yes...

As for routes, there's one called Birmingham Cross City South, where you
drive from Redditch to Birmingham New Street - the realism on this route
is astonishing.

Oh, and try and get the older BVE program - v2.4 I think, it never crashes.
Look out for an add-on program called BRR (BVE Route Randomiser)
which lets you select any train you've downloaded to run on any route
you've downloaded.

I've tried the two versions I can find. I downloaded and installed the ".net framework" thingy from M!croshaft, but that didn't help. The "new" version still won't go past the spash screen. The old version works for a bit, then just freezes, repeating whatever sound it's on at that time over and over again.

Worryingly, the last time it crashed, I rebooted and the boot screen came up with a high CPU temperature warning, something I've NEVER had before! I've removed all of the software just now but if any of you helpful bunch have any suggestions (other than "buy a better computer, you tight git" :D ) it woudl be appreciated!

its a good game, would be better if there was more happening though than just stopping and starting the train, even a diff scenario?

are you overclocking? over-volting? Either way, you don't have adequate cooling. That's why the old version crashes. nothing to do with its stability (although i can't vouch for its stability once you get your cooling sorted).

Do you have a speed-adjustable cpu fan?

install motherboard monitor and see what it tells you about your temps.
