Greyfriars Monastery in Albion St

Postby crusty_bint » Sat Feb 28, 2004 10:01 pm

Does anyone remember this story

http://ww1.eveningtimes.co.uk/lo/news/5021327.html

It's about a 500 year old monastery founded by the Grey/Blackfriars that was found in this City Science Park they've been trying to get going for what seems a decade!

Anywho... has anyone heard any more about it????????

Crusty.

The science parks been in the pipe line for 12 or 13 years.
I know its round the corner but they did dig up skeletons from outside the ramshorn a few years back, they were laying new pipes or somthing The church grounds used to extend out onto Ingram Street many moons ago. That news item was also in the Times

There's actually a grave marker in the pavement outside the ramshorn graveyard. It's (obviously!) not an original grave stone as it's marked into the cement similar to the rest of the pavement.

I never noticed but then there are many, many tablets and flat slabs (mortsafes?) that have weathered badly and are unreadable. Mores the pity.

perhaps I could take some charcoal rubbings on the stones (sounds painful), and see if anything shows up.....It can produce surprising results.

The way it works, well the way Madelaine worked it, is that you poison your lover, are tried for it, flutter your eyes at the Victorian uptight all-male jury, get off on a Not Provan verdict and then get asked 'now that you have been cleared Miss Smith, can you tell us how you did it?'

Of course she was Not Provan, she looks nothing like him!

Former Celtic footballer Davie Provan for those of you who might not get this. And yes, this was the best photo I could find of him online.
Too few hours in the day.
