I think at the time Mr Cameron resided in Glasgow....

:) I forgot about that shite. Did they not have B A Robertson* (Big nose & a chin bigger than Jimmy Hills) doing the music and that guy called 'Christian' now what was he all about? This should almost be a topic on it's own.

*think he's called Eddi Reader nowadays of Fairground Attraction fame

No, that was the 1982 World Cup song "I have a dream" which included
John Gordon Sinclair doing the lead "vocals" ::):

Can't say for sure whether they were from Glasgow, but in the song 'Tinder', which was also used for a MacEwans lager ad IIRC, (but not the same one as the balls being pushed ap the hill), there is a line :- "at seven in the morning, tinder all my money, on the great western road". (any excuse to dig out all my 80s albums.... )

Hipsway had a (minor) hit with 'The Honeythief' and I remember 'Tinder'
so that's more than one "hit" :D

'Easterhouse' were an English band although they were named after that Utopian scheme. Win were from Edinburgh and were, in a previous incarnation, The Fire Engines.

Anyone recall The Silencers, The Big Dish, Sideway Look.....No?

She's back on tour is she not??
Hey here a band who you all may or may not remember 'Love Decree' better known as the Chinheads from a mcewans lager advert, the song was called 'Something so real'

I met their manager through a friend, cant rememember his name, but he was a proud scientologist, and kept trying to convert us.
Is this gonna be a standup fight, sir, or another bughunt?

I think the only claim to fame of Gun was that they managed to find three Glasgow guys who were over six feet in height!

The Beat Poets?
Sneaky Pete?

Easterhouse were from Manchester. They just liked the name.

Inspiral Carpets were from Manchester!!!!! Jings! I've been trying to track down that song by Win for years now, although I didn't know the name of the band. Here's the ad:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zb9_yeEY ... ed&search=

I think I vaguely remember the Gyres graffitti.

Gun had 2 'hits', their version of 'Word Up' and their 1st single whose name escapes me now........and one of them is now in El Presidente, and some of the others are recording under a different name.

Hipsway, The Blue Nile and The Silencers all had a few hits each, one of the Silencers (Cha) recently died, they had a benefit concert for him in the ABC.

Remember 'Inside' by Stiltskin? Another advert song, this time for some brand of denims, young lassies eyeing up a scantily clad buff young man swimming in a lake.

The Fire Engines, who became Win, (although I didn't know that) are enjoying a wee revivial of sorts, along with the BMX Bandits, as bands like Franz Ferdinand are naming them as big influences, also (i think) The Vaselines?

Remember The Pastels? Kinda twee, sorta Belle & Sebastian-ish indie stuff, if memory serves me well.

The Big Dish...........rings a bell, wasn't one of them somebody that Patsy Kensit boffed? Or was that Big Country? (who started out as punk band the Skids, remember 'Into The Valley'??)

Hmmm, me brain's fried now!!

*EDIT** They're on mYspazz!!

The Pastels passed me by at the time, but I bought a compilation of theirs a couple of years ago and think a lot of it is great. I especially love the way the male singer seems to decide from time to time that he can't be bothered to sing in tune; i.e. on some songs he sings properly but on others it's just a tuneless drawl which by rights ought to sound awful, yet somehow seems completely right!
