Now i'm puzzled by the dates. "Estd 1810" and also "built circa 1515".

I presume this building was not built that long ago, but is maybe on the site of a previous pub. 1810 seems more reasonable, the Old College buildings lasting opposite until 1885. Anyone know any more?

I mistimed catching the Helensburgh train from High Street and used that as an excuse to visit Glasgow's oldest pub (site) the College Bar. Regulars of the Old Ship inn would contest that view. Anyway it was singalong time with someone on electric keyboards and volunteers on the Mic. I heard putting on the style, You've lost that Loving feeling and Here in my Heart from people who must have heard them first time round. I'm presuming the older participants were from the high Flats at the Drygate (ie Duke street prison) but they could all belt out a song. I don't mean to be patronising but it really took me back in time to when all Glaswegians were pygmy sized. This was the pre war generation who eventually had taller kids. I'm 6'2" but there were people in there abot 4 foot high. No matter they could sing and deliver a song. Two good looking barmaids provided excellent service and dancing broke out just as I was headed for the last train.

Now, has anyone ever had a drink in The Old College Bar?

It's not far from where I work. Been tempted to pop in for a
quick drink. Heard the singers from outside. Liked traditional
Glasgow pubs. Will give it a shot next week at lunchtime for
a jar. Wonder if they sell food, always like a pub lunch :D

Just had a few bad experiences with some of the older
and dodgier pubs in the city. The "2.30 lounge", George
Hotel does take the biscuit for characters, now no longer,
but had some "strange" types.

George hotel 1990, pints of cider, ***** **** in the glasses 8O
and yeah the polystyrene ceiling tiles. No joke had 2 witnesses,
and there still talking about the condition of the place 15 years
on.

Sorry George for the post being a bit too descriptive :?
