My grandad was a RAF pilot during the Second World War so a love of WW II airplanes and modelling was passed down the generations from father to son.

As someone mentioned there is a decent model shop on the Saltmarket (I've forgotten what it's called even though I pop in from time to time). There are also a couple behind the Tron theatre.

Any time I'm in London virtually the first place I head to is the model shop just down from Covent Garden. Anyone know it? If your into models it's pure heaven!

It's that, or they all save up and buy ex-MOD tanks. I'd rather they had the little tins of paint and superglue out, personally.

Jamiesons Models is the shop in the Saltmarket.
Sadly don't have the space for an ex-MOD tank, if I did it
would have to be WWII German though :P

Having been directed to this original thread (thank you Fossil), may I ask my question again -

A friend of mine is a Research Curator in Glasgow Museums and is currently working on a project relating to the Clyde Model Dockyard in the Argyle Arcade. What she has discovered, or perhaps this should read "hasn't discovered", are images of the interior of the shop.

Could anybody guide her to image(s) or has an image they'd be willing to share with her of this famous Glasgow institution?

And thanks to Hollowhorn for his reply in the other thread.

Jamiesons, that's the one. Will have to pop in there for a look, what with Santa time just round the corner...

Have you seen Scalextric sets these days? Wireless controllers for a start...no space though, would have to get one of those boards you could lower from the ceiling.

Hi CB, sorry for the delay in posting a response, I was down in England on holiday - and trying to dodge all the traffic control measures they have, I've never seen so many enforcement agencies all out to capture motorists. I thought things were back up here with the Gatso's, but we're nothing like as bad as they are in Yorkshire. However I digress.

You mention a "book", you don't happen to remember what its title was?

My mate, Willy Hale .. President of the Model Boat club in Govan, builds the most exceptional ship models by scaling down the original blueprints for the original full sized vessel (where available), cuts every rib, shapes every longitudinal, steam fits every hull plank/plate ... all in the most exquisite, minute detail.

The man is an expert craftsman of the highest order as are most of his club mates.

They still have regular 'displays of work' on the Elder Pond in Govan and a satellite display show from time to time at the boating pond on Archerhill Road, Knightswood.

Well worth a visit, I'll post their next meeting if anyone's interested.
I like him ... He says "Okie Dokie!"
