Muirend ABC cinema demolition

Postby nodrog » Thu Feb 19, 2004 3:49 pm

Hello folks

I'm new to these boards. One of particular interests are old cinema buildings, and I've been monitoring the demolition of the old Toledo cinema in Muirend.

Despite the developer promises to the contrary, there was no public tour before demolition started :(

However, some people here may be hopefully be interested in this selection of photos taken during demolition work, from various sources...

The pictures are in roughly chronological order. It's interesting to compare some of them to the pictures taken before the closure which can be found at:
http://www.chem.gla.ac.uk/~gbarr/cinema ... oledo.html
and

(warning: both are slow loading pages due to many images and an incompetent webmaster!)

No, as the webmaster in question, I was too lazy to get around to properly thumbnailing everything!

Hi !

Kilmarnock has an old cinema - 1930'ish.... Built into a street (Terraced)and derelict.

Occasionaly it's open.. Have not explored it yet though.. Should really get the finger out - given it's where I lost my virginity...

That outdoors shot of the muddy waste at the rear of the building moved me almost to tears.
I grew up with / in that place, and it's a real shame to see it go.

DO you mean any of the cinemas pictured here - or is this a different one?

If you do get in, do take some photos please!
