Where did I go for my 21st Birthday? Help me remember...

Postby KonstantinL » Tue Jan 11, 2005 10:36 pm

Now this is nearly ten years ago because 31 is fast approaching, but I went out to a club/pub/venue for my 21st back in 1995 and I can't remember where it was I went. As far as I know it was the only time I ever went there but (funnily) enough I can't remember much about it!

Now this would be 1995. I'm pretty sure it was down towards where the old Cat House was, or at least that general direction, but it was not the old Cat House (I was there plenty times). It played indie/alternative music and had a dance floor that was slightly raise (i drunkenly tripped over it and landed on my face. It was early in the evening and people weren't even dancing yet, just sitting around the edges. Beamer)

I also think the 'decore' was pretty much all black and very basic.

Does anyone have a clue to what this place was? Thanks, if can help me out here!

Actually I recall going to a club in that general direction around that time - i'd have been 20/21 then too - which wasn't the cat house. I didn't know Glasgow then though, so I've no specific idea of where it really was, but we headed that way. It fits the description you gave. Painted black, indie / alternative stuff etc...

Was it on the west side of Oswald Street? The Arena perhaps?

Well the old Cathouse was called the Hollywood Studios and the Ratrap at different times, and The Venue was on Sauchiehall Street, so we can rule those out. Was it perhaps Gillespies on Cheapside Street? The only other clubs i can think of close by are The Arena or Ivory Blacks (which i think had already changed to Strawberry Fields in '95), both on Oswald Street.

That's a blast from the past. I used to go there on Friday nights around 1994. It was called Parklife if I recall correctly. Such stunning originality.
There is no opinion, however absurd, which men will not readily embrace as soon as they can be brought to the conviction that it is generally adopted.

OK it was not the Cathouse or Fury Murrays (both of which I know well). It may have been on Oswald Street, but I seem to remember it being further down the Broomielaw.

Hmmm...any one know a hypno-therapist who can regress me back to the mid-ninties?

which club?

Postby irnbru » Fri Jan 14, 2005 12:47 am

hi all,

I am now 35 and used to hang around that area a hell of a lot :) so at your 21st I was 25.... damn seems a long time ago now :x

the only ones I remember with raised dance floors are:

Hollywood Studios- it is most likely to be this one !!! as soon as I read the post it sprang to mind then someone else mentioned it too-

On a slightly different topic- does anyone remember the revolving and elevating dancefloor of the Mardi Gras ? a couple of streets from Fury Murrays and is now being turned into yet more overpriced apartments and totally out of reach of ordinary Glaswegians?
