Old Ruin

Postby helsinki » Fri Feb 13, 2004 1:27 pm

There is an old ruin of a house with very high walls adjacent to Corselet Road in darnley on the road to the barrhead dams. A few hundred metres south of here in the direction of the Brock burn are what I believe to be the remains of curling rinks at least 400 years old. History of this old ruin would be appreciated

Having looked at the map for Corselet road it is definetly not Darnley House. The ruin is situated to the left of upper Darnley farm in the woods there very close to the road about 50 metres after you go through what was then the Dam gates. On a map I seen many years ago the house was marked with an elongated S through its plan, which is rectangular with a large bay shaped entrance. The last time I was there maybe 15 years ago it was still in good condition which means the outer walls were still two storey's high.

Ah Yes,

The toaster grave yard ??? Last time I was there we counted no less than 37 dead toasters - lying around.

Odd thing was, they were different types, colours and age....

Strange!

Chris...

Toaster Grave Yard? thats nothing. I came across a 'Belfast Sink' grave yard on the Callander to Balqhuidder cycle track. Man! there were hundreds of them, but they were very much dead (smashed to bits) before anyone has ideas of salvaging them.???

Anyone else been up there and seen them? It was near to Strathyre IIRC.
