The Martyr's Pillar, Maryhill Old graveyard

Postby Chudleigh » Sun Dec 01, 2019 5:58 pm

A memorial to trade union martyr, George Millar, was erected in the graveyard of Maryhill Old parish church, following his murder during a strike at Dawsholm Print Works in 1833. An iron monument with a bronze plaque recorded the event and when the fire-damaged church was being demolished, the Council took the plaque into storage, with a view to its possible installation in Maryhill Burgh Halls. Can anyone give an update on the whereabouts of the plaque and plans for its future display?
