In the aftermath of the Glasgow School of Art fire, large tracts of Sauchiehall Street as well as Argyle Street now looking seedy and rundown if not actually distressed. Does not bode well for 'retail destination' Glasgow?

Apart from the area around Buchannan street and the Galleries the town centre has been a bit of a dump the past few years and I dont see it getting any better. People shop at home now or where its convenient. Banning cars from the centre will just drive more people out to shopping centers out of town.

The West end of Suachiehall Street has taken a bit of a pounding sice the fire (and not helped by Glasgow City Council's streetscaping works which coincided). There are a couple of vacant premises in the block next to The Variety Bar and a few more across the road which have been empty long enough to be embarassing.

Apologies for going off on a bit of a tangent, but what was the name of that wee record/DVD shop at the Buchanan Street end of Sauchiehall Street?

The one where you went up a flight of stairs to the sales floor.

Depends on the year. It's been (at various times) HMV, Virgin, Tower and probably some more that I can't remember

Twenty years ago? Roughly.

It was next door to a bank as I remember.

Not sure that we're talking about the same place here. I'm thinking of the big store on the corner just down from the concert hall steps - more on Buchanan Street actually.

Ok, let's see if I can narrow it down a bit.

Like I say, it was on Sauchiehall Street, on the block between West Nile Street and Renfield Street.

On your left hand side as you're walking towards Buchanan Street.

Next to either a Bank of Scotland or a Royal Bank of Scotland.

You'd walk past it if you didn't already know it was there, the shop itself was up a flight of stairs.

Music Zone will be the one you're looking for. They briefly had a store on Argyle Street in the old Tower Records store too, before closing down almost as soon as it opened when the company went into administration.

Music Zone, that's the one. :)

It was a good wee shop as I recall, cheap and cheerful.
