Kinning Park

Greetings,

I have just returned from visiting Glasgow for the fourth time in the past five years, having become very interested in tracing my family history. A few days ago, I visited Kinning Park, where my father was born in 1933, however, not much really exists out there from the days when my father was there (from birth to around 1944, before moving to Bridgeton, then to Australia in 1950).

I understand the M8 Motorway took out a fair chunk of Kinning Park, particularly Vermont Street, where my father once lived. My wife and I strolled around Vermont Street last Monday. The M8 borders its northern side and light industry exists all along the southern side of the road.

Does anyone have any photos of Vermont Street from the pre-M8 days, preferably the 1940s? I have checked the wonderful Virtual Mitchell website, however, there are no photos of Vermont Street there.

Regards,

Ken Maxwell

I should have made my request clearer. What I'm after are any street-level scenes of Vermont Street at Kinning Park in the pre-M8 days, preferably the 1940s.

This *might* be taken from Vermont Street - I'm not quite sure. Seems to be as close as there is on RCAHMS - and taken by the inevitable John R Hume in 1967.

I take it you've tried Virtual Mitchell, of course?

Thanks Lucky Poet - I'll check this out. Yes, I have tried Virtual Mitchell, however, without success.

It was a great clip but depressing as most of the places I knew were either gone or greatly changed.
