Robert Burn's love of a Glaasgow Lassie

Postby jock78 » Mon Jan 26, 2015 12:02 pm

I have just listened to a session , partly in Gaelic, from Nashville Tennessee of the songs of Robert Burns.
I recorded it from BBC Alba yesterday and was moved to tears by a rendering of 'Ae Fond Kiss' in that language.
Burns wrote the song to Nancy Macklehose ( previously Agnes Craig from the Saltmarket). OK she was married, but as her husband was away earning a living from the sweat and blood of slaves in the Indies he can be excused!

i would recommend this listening to this programme on catchup- it was on at 11pm yesterday and was of an all female cast.
Best regards,
John

Is that no whit folk did back then?
To help the long hours pass.
They still do it to this day,
They cut thy neighbours grass.

So Rabbie was a naughty boy,
Who wisnae in their day?
A man's a man for a' that,
A fornicator, per se.
