renting a lock up from GCC or GHA

Postby joker fae yoker » Sun Aug 10, 2014 3:25 pm

Hi,

does anyone know if its still possible to rent a lock up garage from either the Council or GHA?

If so do you know how to go about it? There is nothing on either of their websites about it.

Cheers,

Craig.

Craig

You will need to go into the local housing office. My deceased mother's neighbour rents a lock up at Kirkton Avenue and she deals directly with the office at Dykebar but don't hold your breath as when I closed up my mother's house, they were worse than useless. My former neighbour also had many issues with them over the lock up, for repair etc. Still it's worth a go!

Hi,

i gave them a phone and they have sent me out an application form. The ones in Kirkton Avenue, Is that the ones behind the British Legion? One there would be perfect. I think they have been recently renovated.

Ive to hand my form in to Dykebar. Fingers crossed.

Cheers!

That's the very ones! I do hope you're successful, I don't see many people using them but I've been told that there is a long waiting list for these but I sincerely keep my fingers crossed that it's just not true and you get one. They are ideal lock ups and I only know one person who uses them (well sometimes but most other times her car is parked on the street).

Hi,

yeah unfortunately the waiting list is pretty long. And my application only sits with the office in Dykebar, so its only their garages i'll be considered for. But as i would happily take a garage anywhere in the City Im going to have to submit an application into all the different offices. This car really needs to be dry and secure and im getting a bit anxious now as to where I'll store it.

Hopefully something will turn up soon.

Its very frustrating to know that most people who have them dont use them for their cars.

Cheers,

Craig.

Erm....I'm one of those people who has a garage and everything in it but the car but that's for good reason - the car won't fit. Well it would if I got a can opener and made a hole in the roof to climb in and out off.

Have you tried advertising for a space on Gumtree or somewhere else? Lock ups are extremely hard to come by, I'll grant you that.

Yeah ive got an ad on gumtree at the moment. there are very few on offer and the ones that are available are quite expensive, with some people asking in the region of £85-100 per month.

I know what you mean about the garage size though. Ive almost become obsessed with them now and Im always checking them out. You can see that some of them, attached to private houses, are nowhere near wide enough.

You don't realise just how big cars have become; it's like they've all jumped up a size class. I saw an old Mk3 Escort parked next to the current Focus in Tescos car park the other day; the Escort looks a tiny car in comparison - the Focus is now the same size as a Sierra almost, whilst the Mondeo is now bigger than the old Granada.
