Big fire?

Postby ibtg » Thu Jul 10, 2014 9:23 pm

Looks like a big fire over Drumchapel direction? Big black clouds of smoke.

Anyone know anything about this?

Hubby says it doesn't look like Renfrew, but without his SatNav, he's lost!

Definitely looks like the scrappy is burning tyres. Didn't think they were allowed to do that anymore.

Won me lots of Brownie points.

Ah, that'll be the Renfrew scrapyard again, then. :-)

Side note : what do you have to do to be closed down these days?

There are loads of scrapyards in Scotland. All the notable fires seem to occur in this one. Perhaps they're just more photogenic. Nonetheless.

If I recall correctly, they had to close the airport down at one point because of an 'accidental' fire at the same place a while ago.

Again, what has to happen before....?

I don't buy the "accidental" fire excuse as you have to make a determined effort to start rubber burning, it takes a lot of heat, however once it is started it will develop rapidly. So some form of accelerant was used (petrol most likely), that has got to be deliberate.

Looks like you have lost the Brownie points

The fire started in the tyre recycling yard on the right hand side of Meadowsite St, Renfrew as you head towards Christies Scrap yard.

Christies and the other smaller vehicle scrap yard were not involved.

To make matters worse, an employer for the recycling complex, beside where this happened, decided a couple of nights ago to deliberate burn off some of his rubbish as opposed to hiring a skip.

Needless to say his fire was spotted by a diligent fire watch patrol that overlooks that area and regularly reports such sightings.

As regards closing them down. Thats in the hands of the Local Council when they reapply for their application to recycle a variety of goods such as producing and selling " Bio fuels".

Oh, ok, thanks. Renders the remainder of my comment somewhat irrelevant.

I still get to keep a couple for it being Renfrew, though. :-)
