Anderston Stone Hippos

My mum recently moved out of "wee" Houldsworth St (the cul-de-sac part that runs parallel with Elliot St) as its going to be demolished within the next few years as Sanctuary H.A build new flats and landscape the area. On many a drunken night out my sister & I sat on those hippos eating our chips. The stone Hippos that are located in the middle of the ground between Anderston/Cranstonhill Police station and wee Houdsworth St. Do you know them? I was wondering what will happen to them. I really like them and have a sinking feeling that preserving them wont be a priority of the housing association budget.

Does anyone know the origin of these and what their fate might be? Thanks

Ha ha! Just had a quick look at google maps and you can totally make them out, grazing in the wee garden bit.

Don't have a clue where they would be from or anything about them, but why not make contact with someone at the HA - I have found that if you get people on the right day and with the right attitude they are up for helping out on something a bit out the ordinary. If you have a house with a garden or a garage etc you could adopt a hippo for nostalgia purposes?

Bear in mind Sanctuary are the folks who paid £50,000 (?) for the Billy Connolly monstrosity overlooking the Expressway.

Shelling out for a couple of replacement hippos probably won't bankrupt them.

£50,000? Are you sure? Mind you I wouldn't be surprised that amount of money has been spent on something like that! I could think of better ways to spend it.

The £50,000 is Sanctuary's own figure.

I suspect a large chunk went on the sculptor's name.

this was simply the impression left on the wood after Andy Scott had welded the face part of the sculpture on top of the wood. Personally l like it, it's so unusual :D

Jesus does not only appear on Toast - he has been seen behind the door of one of the Cubicles in the Gents Toilet in Ikea at Braehead
