Won't be long now. All that planning weed growing out of cracks in high places. Just needs a spell of dry weather to make this thread busy again.

We should be OK for a bit I think. They need cash along with the dry weed.

Last week of the school summer holidays is when we used to noticed it all going to $hit, especially if it had been a long, hot dry summer.

Schools were/are? a particular target - the ones set on fire a week or so before the kids returned were usually started by stupid kids for 'entertainment', the 'smart' ones torched them a day or so before they were to return to school as there wouldn't be enough time for the Education Dept. to put into place alternative teaching arrangements.

Related to that one was my university days (both as a student, then as a member of staff at Strathclyde), was you could guarantee a fire alarm would be set off at least once during the exam period somewhere on campus. Basically, if you thought you were going to flunk you got a willing mate to set the fire alarm off in the middle of the exam so the building would get evacuated, thus the exam would be rendered null and void.....happy memories of it happening during the mid-terms in January standing on Montrose Street in the freezing cold outside the Weir Building waiting on the fire engines!

Oh no no no - they're doing this one the wrong way round! I thought the idea was to start a fire, wait a bit, then you start building something?

Maybe they've installed something the wrong way round and decided it's cheaper to burn it and claim on the insurance than undo it and set it right. ;)

Scottish Fire and Rescue Service turned out to a fire in the under construction Glasgow Hydro this afternoon at 15.20.

40 Firefighters (approx. 10 fire appliances) tackled the blaze, but at this moment there's no more information about the incident that I can find on the brigade's internet web site.

Aye, post away. I would like to see them. I wonder if this has happened as a result of the rush to finish? Last week the building was just about encircled with access platforms. Must have been costing a fortune.

Oh dear. Am I the only one that finds it slightly strange that a building called the 'Hydro' catches fire?
You might have thought it would have been a bit 'damp'. :)
