No they prefer to hang out at http://discuss.glasgowguide.co.uk/

You can check posts on Auchenshuggle here http://www.hiddenglasgow.com/forums/search.php?keywords=Auchenshuggle but my understanding is very few people thought of Auchenshuggle as a place to live more a destination on the front of 9 tram or a 64 bus.

Lived in Finhaven Street for 37 years up until 1997 then made the mistake of meetin a girl/woman who took me away from all that. Loved the smell of the Penquins from the McFarlane Langs, wish I could return. :(

In 1976, I got a 64 to Auchenshuggle, walked to the start of the motorway and hitched to Athens. Took me 5 days.

I take it those were real penquins being cooked at McFarlane, Lang and not the chocolate ones as they were made by Macdonalds :)

"Penguin was first produced in 1932 by William McDonald, a biscuit manufacturer in Glasgow, and became a McVitie’s brand when Mcdonald joined with McVitie’s and Price, MacFarlane Lang & Co and Crawford to form United Biscuits in 1948."

"United Biscuits was founded in 1948 following the merger of two Scottish family businesses — McVitie & Price and MacFarlane Lang. In 1960, United Biscuits added to its portfolio with the acquisition of Crawford's Biscuits and MacDonald's Biscuits"

Seems right then that Penquins came from the MacFarlane Lang factory under the McVite brand name. Long live the Penguins ... now to get back to Auchenshuggle ... :D

Hi Robert, did you know Jamie Paton from Finhaven Street. I went to school with him, really good fitba player, and a nice guy. I remember him telling me his Maw bet the horse Foinavon on the Grand National, cos it sounded like the street name. Turns out it win at 100/1.
