Haven't been able to come up with anything yet on the artist and I'll be damned if I can remember where I was reading about the buildings previous incarnation! Dazza, do you know the name of the company who first occupied the building we know as the former Strathclyde Regional HQ?

One of these panels, a particularly abstract work I might add, was signed "SEWELL 64" - anyone any ideas?

It was the Royal Assurance Exchange buildings built in 1964 so that tallies with the artwork, i`m surprised dazza missed this as he`s normally in amongst it. It is one of very few interesting things in an otherwise hostile building.

Made contact with the relevent officer who has now got a couple of photos to examine to see if it is worth making a visit to get a better look.

As soon as I get any more information I will pass it on.

If you can give me a couple of days to get something back from CLS. I don't think they should be removed until we know if it is possible for the Council to keep them. If they are to be retained they will need to be removed under the instructions from a Conservation Expert.

That would (obviously) be preferable, so here's hoping :) I think the panels are simply screwed onto a batonned frame from thier sides so should'nt be too difficult (or expensive, if a conservation officer is involved) a job.

Perhaps the Elphinestone Group would be intersted in incorporating them into the new development as I know they have commissioned a bespoke piece for the public atrium/walkway?

I would agree with that crusty, the Elphinstone group to my experience from the top down are very accomodating & you have to keep in mind these guys have a job & a 1/2 to erect this groundbreaking development 8O 40 story`s ::):

They seem to be able to destroy high flats quickly enough. But then, blowing up the M8 probably isnt advisable... ::):

I'm strangely fond of the the Shawlands Arcade even in its current state(nostalgia perhaps).

Don't much care for the Pollok Centre or the shopping centre in Springburn. Wouldn't want to knock 'em down if they weren't going to be replaced though :?
