Plinth on Elderslie St./Claremont Gdns?

Postby Timchilli » Fri Aug 20, 2010 1:27 pm

You can't make it out on Google Streetview, but there's a decent-sized stone plinth with evidence of two metal supporting struts at this junction, just down from Park Circus.

Anyone know what used to appear on this plinth?

About the right size for a pillar box >> by the look of it. I wonder what else was there. The pavement looks quite a mess.

There's a pic of that location taken from Berkeley Street in 1955 on viewtopic.php?f=15&t=681&p=23575&hilit=+elderslie#p23575

The thread's locked so I can't quote it here. There's definitely something below the street signs. Is it a pillar box?
I hear the people sing.

Yep, TheGlasgowStory has a bigger, better resolution version, but I can't make out what's there.

Weird, as it's quite a substantial sandstone plinth.
