Hi Everyone,
I am over 50 and am interested in the history of Cambuslang, Westburn and Newton. These are on the far west of Glasgow, really Lanarkshire. I grew up in Westburn, so have a particular interest in anything relating to it. - On a grouchy note - Lanarkshire (North or South) was such a corrupt, inefficient, poorly managed Council that it is almost impossible to get any official information beyond 10 years ago! Almost all documents, plans, maps etc were destroyed at the reorganisation of local government in the late 70's or so. (Locals say this was to keep the councillors out of jail!!) However, there are still a few people left who have helped me fill in some of the gaps, although it is a shame so much historical information is missing, as this area was an important staging post to London and a country retreat for the clergy of Glasgow Cathedral.
On a happier note, this site has been a great inspiration, showing the breadth of knowledge of out great City.
