I have spent most of my life in Springburn.I,ve been stabbed once, that happened in Milton,so that statistic suggests i'm safer in Springburn.In my opinion they are no better or worse than each other.Watching the recent Kilmarnock based"The Scheme" i couldn't help but think how lucky i was to stay in the leafy suburb of Springburn

Serious assault of some sort in Knightscliffe avenue (lane running down beside ALDI to be factually accurate) last night apparently. All taped off with a three copper guard duty complete with obligatory flock of wee yellow evidential markers on my way into the gym first thing.



Mssrs Plod and co. wouldn't impart any other information other than "A serious assault in the last few hours" .. charmless nerks. That's a bit unkind actually as they were only following protocol I suppose.

Came out of training just under three hours later to find the constabulory and 'scenes of' gubbins all gone .. apart from the fallout that is. No attempt had been made to clean the scene and there was the better part of a bitchslaps' worth of some poor buggers' claret splattered over the lane ..





Not so much of a serious assault, in my opinion, and more of a 'clutch bags at thirty paces' .. still, it all depends on the PF I suppose.

I grew up in Springburn, and my boys grew up around 500 yards from Marvin's house. I grew up safer than my boys did.

These things always turn out to be a pissing contest Joe.Springburn and it's surrounding areas have always had a bad rep,by EVERYONE outside of it.It's the same in every so called hard area.It's mostly bollocks perpetuated by media myth.Good and bad everywhere if you care to seek it out.Btw when i got stabbed it was because i was in the wrong place at the wrong time,but i was in the place for reasons i'd rather not divulge, not because i'm ashamed but because i'd quite like to stand in a bar with some of the folk on here one day.As for Marvin? he looks about as hard as my last shite.But i guess on any given day pumped full of drugs he could be quite intimidating to folk.

Sorry, I may have given the wrong impression, I was a bit gassed and couldn't be arsed typing in my full thoughts.
There were bad bastards in Springburn when I was growing up, no question, but I went to school with kids whose parents represented everyone but the upper classes. Sons and daughters of lawyers and doctors had to get along with those of binmen and toilet attendants and vice versa. You tend not to get that in Killie until kids get to secondary school, and it's a real shame.
What makes Killie so dangerous to grow up in is that it's small enough for pretty much everyone to know everyone else within a year or two of their own age.
When I was fifteen or sixteen, I could go into the city centre alone, no problem. The city is so big that anonyminity was almost always the case. In Killie, young boys just can't walk about the town on their own - they'll get a kicking - guaranteed. They have to go around mob handed. You never see the Killie polis splitting up groups of young boys the way you would in Glasgow.
Far from it being a pissing contest, had I known what Killie was like - I'd have brought my weans up in Glasgow.

Marvin is as saft as shite and although he carried a knife for years, I've never heard of him intimidating anyone.

I have to say that I would hesitate to let the servants socialise in the area where we met him on the HG Springburn walk, mind.

I've drank in every pub in Springburn Dex.Even the Celtic ones.My family are well known in the area and i can freely mix with everybody.Why do you ask? you fancy coming up for a pint?I don't frequent many nowadays because like Josef stated i'm an alcoholic but have been clean for a few years now.Not that that matters but, why do you ask?Springburn pubs are mostly trouble free they police themselves by virtue of the folk who own them.Joe i wasn't having a dig at you mate far from it.

many years ago i was comming down sauchiehall street from a night out at 3 am and approached a street fight involving chinese gangs and somoeone had mentioned that they were triads fighting for their turf.

Topic is years old, but I remember when the Triads were all fighting in the Barras one Saturday afternoon for control of the hookey DVD market. Absolute carnage that day. Some old boy (70+), who was trying to break them all up, got his face slit open for his trouble. Unbelievable.

I truly hope it's about people feeling more able to report sexual offences rather than a real increase in offences committed.

Reading further up the thread reinforced an irony that occurred earlier this week. Regular contributors know I hail from Shettleston - 30 years born and bred there nothing ever happened to me. Now I live up in rural Perthshire, and following the recent death of my mum, I moved my old man up here as well. Yet last weekend a kerfuffle outside a pub 1/4 of a mile from my house resulted in someone sadly ending up now playing their harp.

The reality is bad things happen everywhere. Statistically if you are in a big metropolis the odds of "bad people" and their activities being around are much higher, yet also statisicaly there are also an even bigger proportion of "good people" if you follow the same argument. All relative at the end of the day.

I blame the lack of the right to bare arms and concealed carry to blame for high crime in any city in any country. Bet you don't have half the crime rate in somewhere like Texas. Hell even Switzerland. Those folk have the right idea.
