Hi, I think Glasgow is a fascinating city, while I was stationed in the Holy Loch in the mid-60's and mid-70's I spent most of my off time in Glasgow. I stayed with an old couple in Provanmill, and visited quite a few places that yanks never even heard of. Of course my stop every weekend, was THE Barras, and Lacarno. I always said in my after life I wanted to come back as a Glasgow cabbie. After I bought a car I think there wasn't an area of Glasgow I hadn't been to. After I met my future wife, she was from Dennistoun I took her many places she had never been. I'm kinda sad to see a lot places change so much from that time, the motorway thru the middle of Glasgow really changed a lot of my old haunts. An other place I used to go a lot was the Cambridge St bookstore, it was great books from the floor to ceiling and so dark you could hardly see. Another one of my interests was canals on my stay in the 70's I was a member of SIWA Scottish Inland Waterways Association. also belonged to GSME Glasgow Society of Model Engineers, great folks. Even though I live in the states I come across quite often, usually every other year or so. My wife has some relation coming over from Canada in June, and we are going to meet up and I'm going to give them a tour of Glasgow.
So thats pretty much it and why I love Glasgow.

Evening all.

I've lived in Glasgow for the last eight years (aside from an ill-advised six month jaunt to Aberdeen) and I've recently moved to Finnieston. I love architecture and examining the history and stories of my home town of Ayr. I've got to the point where I feel like I should throw away those dog-eared Stenlake copies of 'Auld Ayr' and throw myself into Glasgow's history and architecture which is what brings me here.

Be gentle.

I love Ayrshire. It's the only place that can claim to have it own Dick Institute ::):

Perhaps the worst thing about the Dick Institute is its exhibition of bones.

Hello HG. Been a long time lurker, thought it time I introduce myself. My name is Stuart, currently onboard an LNG tanker at anchor off Brunei. Usually trade between Brunei and Japan, sometimes South Korea (hopefully won't be doing that run too often!!), 6 days up and 6 days down. Been doing this job now for 23yrs, got better sea legs than Popeye! My home is in Knightswood, pretty close to the golf course, moved there last year after spending 15yrs in Yoker, down by the ferry.
Really like viewing the various photographs on here, gives me inspiration to pick up my camera again and take some of my own, which I really need to start doing again (makes me weep thinking of all the money spent on equipment, and it not getting used).
Again, love this site, one of the first I check while sipping on my first cuppa in the morning. :D
A wee bit of sanity in a world gone mad!

I'm from Lesmahagow, but have alot of good Glasgow memories. School trips generally involved going to Glasgow. I remember going to the old science museum in the rotunda, the People's Palace, the old transport museum and numerous art trips to draw things in Kelvingrove museum.

I came to the forum through looking for information about the town planning of Cumbernauld.
