Uplifting Items

Postby AzimScot » Sun Oct 20, 2013 11:34 am

Hi,

I am looking for a charity or service that uplifts items for free. Things like sofas and bed mattresses, wardrobes. The council only uplift items placed outside of home and take 20 working days plus there is a risk of things falling over onto the road and pavement would be restricted to resident walkers. So, some company that can collect within in-house.

Thanks.

The charities which gratefully accept large furniture items and uplift for free, in my experience, are
The Salvation Army,
Chest, Heart and Stroke
and British Heart Foundation - and there will be others...

Sorry, no telephone numbers to hand, but they are all in the book.

I was getting rid of some old furniture in a relatives flat in the summer.
I phoned the British Heart Foundation and they asked for an idea of what was to be collected.
They gave me a day and a time slot and took away three sets of drawers and a few coffee tables and
bedside units. There was a cupboard they wouldn't take something to do with the finish and whether painted or not. On the whole I found them to be very helpful and because they had several trips up and down stairs of the
flat I gave them donation.

Don't have the number anymore but as ibtg says should be in phone book and you could check if they are
able to accept all the items.

You could also try Glasgow Furniture Initiative which is a registered charity that do free uplift of unwanted
furniture and white goods. Think the number is 0141 314 1450 though probably best to check them out on
Internet as don't want to give you number which may be out of date.
Think they have branch in Maryhill and another in Easterhouse.

Starter Packs Glasgow also pick up furniture.

"I before E, except after C" works in most cases but there are exceptions.

Emmaus is another charity who will uplift things for free.

Do be aware though, that any furniture etc MUST have the label re fire-retardant filler or similar on it, or they won't take it.
Some people hear voices.. Some see invisible people.. Others have no imagination whatsoever.

The furniture ie sofas etc should have a fire resistance label or charities wont accept them. So I suggest check for this.
