Cheap, decent, digital cameras ?

Postby glasgowken » Wed Jan 25, 2006 8:53 am

I've got an old Fuji Finepix1400 Zoom, digital camera. It's ok, but a bit too bulky to carry everyday, also it's difficult (for me anyway) to take non-flash pictures in places like museums, etc.
What's the minimum amount I could expect to pay for a camera that takes decent sharp pics, with the ability to shoot in lowish light ?
I'm not bothered about fancy stuff, just the basics, but it must have macro.
Any recommendations ? Please remember, I am very poor :(

Cheers :)

I bought this one a few weeks ago. I'm very happy with it so far. Ebuyer have
knocked 6 quid off the price since I bought it, though.

How did you find ebuyer to deal with?

Almost every computer mag I've picked up in the last year has tales of woe about them and that they were very difficult to contact if things went wrong.

I've been buying from Ebuyer for a number of years and have had no major
problems with them. I bought some cheap transparent case fans, half of which
arrived with cracks along the spindles. I informed Ebuyer and they sent me
more for no extra cost.

Can anyone advise a cheap, small digital camera.

I go fishing and like to return the fish alive, generally if the fish is decent then I take a quick piccie & return it quickly. So, I don't want to spend a lot of cash as there is every chance the camera may end up going for a swim.

The camera on my Samsung phone is pants or I would use it :( Regardless of the light conditions, and whether or not the flash is the picture always seems to be blurred

Cheers

I have a Sony Cybershot S730 which I bought from Sainsbury's for £60. It takes small video images too and would be ideal for your purpose. It's pocket-size and takes 2 x AA batteries. I think it may have been replaced by now, but I expect there'll be a similar model for that price.

I noticed that PC World were selling a Praktika of similar size for about £30, but I don't know what the image quality is like.

I bought the same model and it's been great. Much handier for carry around than my elderly Mavica.
