The latest in a long line of high street retailers to go bust.

Shame. I always found them very good. (Got my current camera from them at a very good price, after they found another branch that actually had one then had it moved over.)

Indeed. I've bought all my cameras from them in recent years, plus quite a few accessories too. Online buying is all very well, and often quite a bit cheaper (on the surface at least; many times I've got to "checkout" to find there are large P+P charges not mentioned previously - that's when I abort the transaction and go to a shop!) but I prefer to try a camera out "in my hand" before buying. The ability to do that is partly why I've always been a fan of Nikon rather than Canon, for example - Canon cameras just didn't feel right to me. Something you wouldn't know buying online, and not a valid reason for return either, I wouldn't think!

I hope they can save at least some of the shops - not looking too hopeful at the minute though.

Shame for the staff. Knowledgeable and pleasant - where will they get employment now? PC World camera counter? pffft!

Yes sad, I made a few of my bigger purchases from them (choose online collect in store). The shops themselves did become uninteresting to browse, not specialist enough....

My last camera came from here, very competetive prices > http://www.hdewcameras.co.uk

I got an email yesterday from them

As a past customer of Jessops Photo, we wanted to thank you for your custom and support and update you with information on what is happening with the company now.

Jessops went into administration on 9 January 2013, however the good news is that the online photo business has been acquired by CeWe Color Ltd, who previously provided the photo service on behalf of Jessops. CeWe Color will continue to provide the service under license as Jessops Photo. At the moment, access to Jessops Photo is only available online but we are exploring a return to the high street and we'll keep you updated on that.

Jessops Photo would like to be able to keep in touch with you and let you know what's happening with the business, how it will progress and where the services can be accessed. Don't worry, you don't have to do anything but if you would prefer not to receive emails from Jessops Photo then please click here and your details will be removed from our mailing lists.

Once again, we'd like to thank you for your custom and support.

The bit "exploring a return to the High Street" is interesting.

I bought my last camera from Calumet and swore I'd go back Jessops after that experience! It's a pity

TV Dragon Peter Jones has told Sky News he is taking a risk by relaunching collapsed high street camera chain Jessops but will give it his "best shot".

The entrepreneur snapped up the brand when the company went into administration in January with debts of more than £80m, leaving almost 1,500 staff out of work when its 187 stores were shut.

30 stores to reopen, dont know if any of these will be Glasgow.

I noticed the one at Buchanan Galleries was open yesterday. Don't know about the one closer to Charing Cross though.

Some Jessops' shops have been bought by Peter Jones of "Dragons Den" fame (or notoriety, depending on your point of view I suppose); 32 rings a bell, at least two of which are in Scotland IIRC.
