NCP Car Park - Ingram Street

Postby conn75 » Tue Jan 15, 2008 7:10 pm

I live across the road from this (my flat looks onto it) and I've just received a notice that a planning application has been put in for a 6 storey hotel to be built on the site with retail units on the ground floor. Great. I seem to remember something about part of the space being turned into green area. Fat chance. That'll look great stuck onto the City Halls.

I know I said elsewhere that I was all up for urban renegeration, and this isn't a u-turn because it's going to block my view, but surely there's so many better uses for that bit of land which would fit in more with the area and the adjacent building?

Ya luck b*gg*r!

Living opposite an hotel is a pervs dream. There's something about hotel room that bring out the porn star in people.

Make the most of it. Buy a telescope, better still a top quality video cam. Contact me nearer the time re marketing and distribution.

:D

Hmm, now that you mention it a mate of mine said something similar about his pals back window looking out the back of the Herald building onto that hotel that's on the other side of the block...

I'm curious now as to what was in that space originally. Anyone know?

I don't know, but I suspect it was nothing special. This area was a jumble or residences, warehouses, factories and shops so it might have been utilitarian, but then again might not, Im not sure :)

This was mooted in November 2006 as a residential development with ground floor retail units, I don't see a problem with it being a hotel, in fact I think its a great idea and will really help enliven the street here and also bring some cohesion back to the vista. I'll reserve judgement on the aesthetic and whether or not its appropriate until I see images :)

It's not the fact that it's going to be a hotel that's bothering me, as such, it's the fact that it's 6-storeys which will tower above City Halls and the other buildings.

The image I posted is of a 7 storey development and doesn't look out of context to me :) One to watch though - the site demands quality, and quality we must demand!

They'll probably be put on by the SAGA bus tourists.

Some details from The Herald. Also details in that article on the Old BBC building:

When they put it into the perspective of providing more beds for the Commonwealth Games then my opposition to it falls flat a bit.
