Here’s a view from the pavement at West Street leading directly to the new footbridge.
I remember the yard at the bottom of the street being occupied by “Euroyachts” who must have used the York Street Ferry’s landing point for their craft.
The large crane on the other side of the river is for new construction in York Street.
It’ll soon be a short squiggly walk over to see it!

Got a good look at the skeleton of the bridge from the walkway slightly downstream.
I’m not an engineer, but it looks to me that there will be a few months finishing work before the bridge is ready for use?

I’ve been following the redevelopment of Clyde Place on the south bank of the Clyde since it began in 2006.
The bottom of West Street, where the new footbridge will start, was a boat yard, the Scottish Boat Centre, previously known as Euroyachts.
This picture was taken in September 2006, it shows how neglected and overgrown the quayside had become.

By March 2007, the old cobbles were being lifted and the mechanical diggers were at work.

It looked pretty dangerous with all the rotten timber piles not holding very much of the quayside in place.

I would have been too feart to anywhere near the edge of the river with a dumper truck!

The Microsoft Visual Earth flight must have taken place around the same time. It got a good birds eye view of the old timber piles.

Artists' impression without any balloons? Impressive. Multi-faceted? I suppose it means something to someone.

Dark fonesnap of German truck delivering ready made trees for Northern Irish Company
with contract to alter North bank of River Clyde in Glasgow.
Some previously delivered trees are visible to the right.

These trees seem more a"Y" than the cube shown in the sketch.

Will overhead wired streetlights be allowed under the new vision?

I pass this way every day on the way into work on the bus ' and i took a walk down to look at the new bridge now that the covering is off . Is it just me 'or does it look really cheap and nasty ? 8O I know it cost something like 33 million quid ' but it look's almost like some sort of temporary structure , and not something that is built to last .

If my memory serves me correct the new squiggly bridge cost nearer £3m than £33m

However, the total cost of the project has now been capped at £33m with the bridge to cost between £3m and £6m and the remainder being spent on reinforcing the Quay wall and providing access roads, drainage and general ground works.

A tender of £3,658,699 has been accepted from Edmund Nuttall Ltd, the same company that worked in partnership with the council to build the Clyde Arc (affectionately dubbed the 'squinty bridge').

Perhaps not. But it is a hell of a lot cheaper than the £60M (unbuildable) bridge by Rogers that was previously proposed.

£60 million? Wow. Bet it would've looked good. (Actually, from what I remember of the drawings it wouldn't have. A lucky escape, maybe.)
