I went to have a look when they started to build The Harbour and I got one of the fancy expensive brochures showing what the flats would look like if it was The Sims (including those poor people that have no facial features whatsoever) Image
I haven't seen the completition but did they manage to get the ducks and swans swimming up the Clyde like the brochure said?

Glasgow Harbour retail plan approved

Image

Published on 21 Oct 2009

Some of the UK’s biggest high street names have been dealt a major blow with the approval of a £1.2 billion retail and leisure development at Glasgow Harbour.
Manchester-based tycoon John Whittaker has been given planning permission in principle for a retail development, 30-storey housing office tower, cinema and casino, 200-bedroom hotel, bars and restaurants.
House of Fraser, John Lewis and Debenhams are opposing the development, arguing that it will drive down city centre trade, and the stores have been backed by two of Scotland’s largest shopping centres, Buchanan Galleries and the St Enoch Centre.
However, Glasgow City Council said it was satisfied that any impact on trade would be minimal, although it said a “cautionary” approach would be taken towards any future out-of-town developments.
Councillors voicing support for the plan argue that similar concerns were raised several years ago over the impact of Buchanan Galleries on the “Golden Z” district of Argyle Street, Buchanan Street and Sauchiehall Street.
Councillor Alex Glass said the development would enhance Glasgow’s reputation as the second top retail destination in the UK. He said: “When Buchanan Galleries were built fears were raised that it would have an adverse effect on Glasgow’s three main shopping streets, but this has not happened.

An interesting way to look after the city centre. Shows much creativity. Who'd have thought a big peripheral shopping centre* would be the answer? (Any suggestions for what the question was should be sent on a postcard to the usual address.)

You shouldn't even think of objecting - you should shut up and go shopping cos it's great. Handing vast areas of your city over to property developers is great too :)

*Sorry, it's a 'mall' of course.

I lived by the Clyde in Whiteinch a couple of years ago and if I opened the kitchen window on some days there was a smell coming from the Clyde. Always wondered if the Harbour residents could smell it as well?

You were probably smelling the lovely aromatics drifting across the glistening artery of the Clyde from the Shieldhall/Linthouse Shit facto .. erm .. sewage works.

That wonderful piquant fragrance gave a touch of glamour, and possibly dysentry, to many an early shift for me while serving my time in Govan.

I believe there's a campaign by Glasgow Harbour residents to have the Clyde moved a couple of miles further south. This will have the knock-on bonus of getting rid of the shipyard noise.
