I made a posting on the Barras's thread yesterday and it has disappeared. My post was with regard to something Dexter had written (it has disappeared too!). Could someone please tell me what happened to my post?

I deleted it, and Dexters and Josefs and will be deleting this and yours once you've had time to see this.

Dexter, grow up.

Dugald, stop biting at his bait.

Josef, love ya! :D

Crusty_bint, someone else took the time to explain what happened to my post. I can't recall any reason why Dexter should have felt the need to reply sarcastically: there wasn't anything, as far as I recall, that was particularly objectionable. I simply questioned his early use of "netiquette", and his later correction of a miss-use of the possessive... I even mentioned that "netiquette" was both a useful word and idea, and that I too, would have incorrectly used "Barras". Don't have any idea about this fellow Stewart.

I'm not at all aware of having bitten any of Dexter's bait... wasn't even aware that he had offered any. So be it, I'll refrain from further comment. Thanks for taking the time to answer my inquiry. Cheers, Dugald.

PS I tried, in vain, to post this as a PM, but for some reason it was not accepted, so here I am!

Misunderstanding of how to express a plural more likely. One Barra several Barras.

One could argue that Barra's is a contraction of Barrowlands and the apostrophe is used to indicate omission. I wouldn't suggest this myself however as it's obviously shite, but it would at least be an inventive excuse for illiteracy and probably merit half marks or better in the current Higher Still.

I was more concerned with the use of the apostrophe in the possessive 'its' which, in a sickening misuse of duty, was only corrected about an hour ago...

And it would, in any case, be Barr'a's

Nope -'barra' being a Glaswegian form of 'barrow', 'Barrowlands' would contract to "Barra's"

- the Punctuation Police.

Apples and oranges. It's either Barrowlands or The Barras. Which is where Red_Kola came in, I suppose.
