The washing machine broke down a couple of weeks ago, so my son and I went to the shop at the Barras for a part.

It turned out the shop didn't open till 10, (we had got there at 9), so we wandered about the area, which is looking really awful.

We passed the 'friendly street traders', who offered 'Cigarettes!, Tobacco!, one, who looked at us suspiciously as we passed him for the 3rd time stared at me and shouted 'Cigarettes!, Tobacco!, Viagra!' -

It never ceases to amaze me when those who partake of Barras baccy an' bevvy are first in line to greet when their local corner shop/ offy goes out of business.

As a generalisation, people generalise. C.F. general elections. The corner shop is there, their wallet is here. They can save a couple of quid. Where's the harm?

On a more general, grander note - all those people who moan about the recession and the credit crunch, when in the "boom years" leading up to 2008 they were quite happy to get their snout in the trough taking out 100%+ mortgages to buy houses to make a fast buck and all that.......but alas I digress from said topic. All those gap sites and abandoned grand plans in Glasgow city centre that we are now stuck with for years as a result.
