Flattened . . . by Tesco

SUPERMARKET giant Tesco has been accused of "sneaky behaviour" after it demolished a historic Glasgow rail station at 7am on a Sunday.

Two MSPs have called for separate inquiries into how the company was able to have the former Partick Central building knocked down without anyone seeming to know about it.

I think you would be wasting you time. An obscure Building Warrant, one of many down there attached to and issued to one of many Planning Applications down there. Issued quietly as an amendment and quietly put on the Councils website.

That is if it is on their website. Even the local Councillor was unaware until Friday that a Warrant had been issued.

Sadly your probably right about this being a time wasting exercise. But that's not to say that the persons/deparment should get off lightly without some pertinent questions being raised regarding this demolition.

It might not be the most aestheticaly appealing building that's under pressure to be saved in Glasgow, but at this rate if these stealth demolitions go unchecked it will destroy the unique look that Glasgow promotes itself

You are completely right there Pgcc. The photograph you posted says it all.

It would appear at present that Glasgow only wants all it's old stuff herded in the West End, City Centre and South Side.

Any old building elsewhere which is not inside the grid or leafy suburb is fair game.

In any other European City a mixture of the old and new together gives many Cities a vibrancy that Glasgow certainly lacks in certain areas where we presently seem hell bent on wiping old areas off the face of the earth.

If you want to ask pertinent questions then i'll give you a hand. The local Councillor is certainly on the war path with this one. Understandably so.

If we could through like minded folks on this website get Glasgow City Council to "tidy up" their notifications process with regards to these stealth Demolition Warrants then that would be a task worth undertaking.

A simple linked through page from the home page of their website to the current live issues that are shaping the fabric of our City would not be too much for our City fathers to deliver to their Citizens.

Would it Alex....

Evil feckers! Think I'll apply for a clubcard just so's I can cut it up, spit on it and mail it back!

I guess it wasn't the most stunningly attractive thing that ever went up but for some reason I always liked that funny wee pile of bricks on stilts...

TESCO'S DEMOLITION OF PARTICK STATION

Postby DC » Sat Feb 03, 2007 3:03 pm

You would think the profit this mob makes they could
easily have incorporated the old station into the
design plan, even if if was just a pedestrian entrance
or the like. A simple gesture and a good public relations exercise.

Tesco seem to be a bit more popular in Linwood.
