Old Meat Market Regen, part good, part disappointing news?

Postby escotregen » Sat Dec 07, 2019 6:28 pm

Doubtless it's good news that the becalmed regeneration of the remaining old meat market sites in Dennistoun will be restarted. But isn't it a tad dismaying that a giant UK wide Housing Association with a group in Scotland has been selected by Glasgow City Council to lead on it? I'm not meaning to be too Scottish-parochial, but there's a huge reservoir of experience, capacity and expertise in the more truly indigenous 'Scottish' Housing Association sector.
For example, the impressive earlier redevelopment in the meat market area was accomplished by the award-winning partnership of Reidvale and Molendinar Housing Associations. Not only are these Associations non-profit and locally headquartered - Reidvale is a community-based organisation meaning that it is controlled by people resident in, or with a direct stakeholding in, the locality. There are also a number of much larger scale Housing Associations long based and active in Scotland from their start-up.
As I say, good news on the regeneration front, but maybe disappointing on the indigenous Housing Associations in Scotland front?
