Not sure of the great loss of the steps to be honest, I won't miss them.

I certainly don't love the GCPB building, but I'd definitely miss it if it was torn down, same way I'd be heartbroken if they tore down say the Livingstone Tower....I know a lot of the 'more senior' HG contributors who can remember the time before any of this stuff was built - might not mourn the loss of some of these buildings, but for a post-Bruce Report weegie like me, I probably would.

Buchanan Street steps

Postby hillbilly » Tue Feb 24, 2015 3:54 pm

So our city fathers have decided to demolish the Buchanan st steps. What a joke . Capitalism and greed wins out over the people.
THE MASTER OF THE CARAVAN :
But who are ye in rags and rotten shoes,
You dirty-bearded, blocking up the way?

THE PILGRIMS :
We are the Pilgrims, master; we shall go
Always a little further:

Does Glasgow really needs more shops? How many empty shops do we need? They tear down city cetre buildings which have great architectural design to build glass boxes. Demolition permission should only be given if the building is dangerous, the facade could be retained with the inside being rebuilt.

Not happy about the steps going, I hope the new shops will be paying corporation tax, should the council only let retailers who pay their taxes lease/buy retail space ?
