I was going to say, it's a testament to the structures to have been standing fully built with all the related internal and external loads, then stand so long weakened and fully exposed.

A good decision to add strengthening pieces if that has happened :)

Ach, even the late residents had some ideas about that :-) ...

On a related note, I noticed the demolition of Bluevale/Whitevale has started in earnest. The northern tower now has red scaffolding (or some sort of protective fence) on the roof - I could only see from the city centre (anyone got better pix??)

It's going to be as suspected, the same process they used on the old Daily Record building on Anderston Quay or Tayside House in Dundee - an "inside-out" nibble down. Which is going to take ages!

RA - looks like that with a twist:

"This will allow contractors to remove walls and floors piece by piece. Once work on each floor is complete, the platform descends down the building until it reaches ground level."

You have to wonder what the cost difference is between doing it this way, and ye old fashioned method: i.e blowing it down with explosives. It's more dissassembly rather than demolition.

But I suspect it's costing GHA a pretty penny...! :(

Apparently this method is cheaper than erecting scaffolding for a demolition of this type ( © Mandy Rice-Davis ). A link to a Topdownway video explaining the ins and outs of the system ( found via a more urban site ) :

It's not very dramatic, but it sure is a pretty novel way of demolishing a building :D

Does anyone have any update on Red Road, Norfolk Court or Tarfside Oval demolitions. Tarfside especially is moving rather fast two blocks look done.

Thanks

Safedem have moved on-site of their latest job, sealing off a 10 storey slab block on Glasgow’s St Vincent Street between Elderslie St and Elliot St in readiness for its demolition.

The fourth phase of the ongoing regeneration of the Anderston Estate, led by Sanctuary Scotland, the project will see the historic street pattern reinstated and hundreds of new flats built in line with a master plan prepared by Mast Architects, better integrating the area with the surrounding city.

It follows the delivery of 109 new apartments and maisonettes designed by Cooper Cromar architects, clad in buff brick and rising to no more than six storeys.

I read somewhere that the remaining occupied Red Road tower (33 Petershill Drive) is now empty...so I presume that means they will start stripping the asbestos out from it soon, if it hasn't already started. The blocks they've already done will come down in the summer apparently. Remains to be seen if they will wait until 33 Petershill is also stripped and then they will bring down all six in a wunner.

The first of the Gallowgate Twins is now almost down to the ground, I suspect they will be starting on the other pretty soon.
