Collegelands Phase 2??

Postby RapidAssistant » Tue Apr 30, 2013 3:23 pm

Now that Phase 1 of Collegelands has been up and running for over a year or so, what about the rest of it?? Where's the hotel that was going to use the remaining part of the old goods warehouse wall that's still got nothing behind it for example. Call me a cynic, but is this going to be the latest half-finished white elephant that GCC have presided over in the name of regeneration?

IMHO it looks a damn sight better than a lot of other projects that have been unfinished for longer.

Yep looks like more student residences in place of the planned Hotel.

The GHA are currently finishing two blocks of apartments right across the road from this, where the Lamppost bar once stood, which run all the way up the hill to Castle Street.

TBH given the close proximity to Strathclyde University, student flats sounds like a far more sensible idea than a hotel - which I reckon would have been situated too far east to be a commercial success. If we are going to have more hotels, I think the city needs more upmarket, higher-end ones than yet more Travelodges and Premier Inns. hmmm I feel a new thread coming on here!

Student flats and the Far East seem to go together in Glasgow.
I hear the people sing.
