Yep my youngster (19) is planning on this kind of career after the announcement yesterday.

In order to address major research challenges of significance in the 21st Century, multidisciplinary teams are being brought together in an exciting new development to combine strengths in engineering, science, business and the social sciences.

Bridie tell your son to keep an eye on Fugro. I worked for them for a wee while . They were and still are a good employer. It has various divisions. Look them up on the net.

I find it suspicious that the Uni has another reception a couple of months ago to "announce" the TIC. Doesn't cost much to pay an architect to draw a pretty picture to get everyone excited when secretly they don't have the money to start building. As an ex-employee they have been putting the cart before the horse for years.
