Come to think of it, it behaves like a liquid on account of being a mixture of solid and gases, doesn't it? Something like an avalanche.

maximusmop wrote:I just read that again, no way is the jaw 13 tonnes, more like 1.3 tonnes.

well the demolition is going slower than expected, but the way they are doing it was and is exactly as i was told the day i visited the site, that is that they are taking 8 storey bites out of the block leaving the core(lift shafts stairs etc) untill last knock the 8 storey core out and repeat till done, scareyman you need to remember there is a MAJOR gas main in EXTREAME close proximity to the two blocks and checks will be ongoing to their condition during demolition.

as to the weight issue of the muncher i will and dont post porkies rest assured i went and ASKED about the original demolition hold up,and that was what i was told, will do some digging and report back!!!

Hi Maximusmop, I didn`t mean to imply you were telling lies, more that I thought you may have been misinformed as 13 tonnes is a helluva weight to lift up that height. I`m well aware of the hazards of working around gas mains and the like and i`m sure they will have it well protected with steel plates and a cushion of crushed materials to take any impact. I went down to the site on Saturday and didn`t see anyone around, but got a good look at the jaw attatchment and it looks slightly smaller than the one we use on our Zaxis 870 high reach machine and that comes in at 2.5 tonnes. The MP20 Crusher jaw in Minxy`s vid comes in at around 2.6 tonnes.
Here`s 2 pics of the Zaxis 870, one in Glasgow city centre demolishing the 6 storey Shaftesbury house and the other in Greenock demolishing 16 storey flats at Belville Street.

Looks like things are speeding up a little!

I took some video the other day but haven't figured out how to rotate it so it's the right way up.

Was very surprised to see them work almost a full day on Sunday - are they running behind schedule?

A bit.

They've also extended the working day from 8 till 6 to 7 till 7.

Next one up (or down) is the block that's not in your photo.

Excellent, more chances for action shots :)

It looks like they're making rubble platforms (no idea what the technical term is) around the one nearest Broomloan Road, and all the stuff from around the bottom of it has been cleared. I really don't mind what order they go in though, as long as I have my camera!

I'm sure that that's what I was told by the bloke on site, but you were obviously told different by A.N. Other bloke on site.

If you look at the area just inside the fence from the car park, there's a built-up ridge composed of assorted layers of rubber tyre, metal plate and rubble. My info was that this ridge is covering the gas mains, which runs roughly along the route of the fence.

In the situation where you've got a £1.5 million Tonka Toy on site, it would make more sense to use it to take down the blocks on the gas mains route first before sending it back, rather than keep it hanging around at a zillion quid a day whilst you demolish a not-at-risk building. Is all I can think of.

Exciting stuff. Good to see they're speeding up the progress.

Been looking out to the flats whilst on the 23 going over the motorway to Govan, and when I looked on Wednesday I thought "Where's it gone?!"

Was there a fire in one of the blocks last night? I can see some indication of a fire from Hillpark.
