That's right. On and beyond the site currently owned and occupied by the pawnbroker who doesn't want to move.

Am I alone in querying whether this is the right economic climate for such a development?

Does anyone know what kind of state the existing building is in or are there any pictures of it.
I find it a little worrying when you hear the words "compulsory purchase order"

A million is jack in real terms. Pawn Brokers are in the prime of their business so if I were in his shoes I'd be telling them the very same. Perhaps a million tax free p.a. as a salary for life would be a better ticket.

This isn't an old building. It is a grey pebble dashed monstrosity as can be seen from the image in the link I posted above. it is similar in it's appeal to this lovely number

Now the pawnbrokers is Scotlands longest established and so long as it's turning a profit it'll be hard to shift it, certainly if Jumeriah came to me looking to buy my city centre location I'd be looking for some healthy wedge none of this million piffle that's for sure.

Having reviewed all of the evidence then I'm forced to conclude your right, spare us the boring new shiny box, that bares no relation to glasgows past of the environs and that is a contender for the "Hugh Casson medal" (see eyes passim)

Right now I'm off to complain about the new british coins.....

Did you walk about Glasgow with your eyes closed and only open them once you were in front of this building? There is a building which is mirrored only 500yards away for goodness sake. If you had looked towards the City Centre you would have seen the big shiny Ramada Hotel, build the nice hotel but rehome and adequately remunerate the site occupier.

Tanks for teh lesson in spellerating I'm crap and Lazy....

As to the blind point I live in Stirling a town not festooned with big shiny nice hotels, so that when I get a chance to go to Glasgow I often stay awake :D . My grumble is not sepcific to the saving of this one crappy building (altho, power to the pawn man) but in the replacing throught the ages of buildings that were functional and intersting (creating a diverse landscape in which to live) with boring buildings that whilst possibly more suited to perpose (spell check please) were less architechturally intersting. We as a nation are quick to discard what is seen as out dated and useless, where as I would argue that often the resultant building falls into the above trap faster than the original.

In this case however anything is better than the present so I Doft my cap to you sir and accept a large slice of humble pie. However perhaps the solution might be to rehome the pawn shop in the ground floor of the Shiny hotel, so as to alow pawn to mix with porn

Finished humble Pie

Out

Just all these hundreds of Arabs (complete with families) that were going to come to Clydebank for their surgery. YRCMIU.

Quite a lot of them did. It was the celebratory firing of automatic weapons directly underneath the flight path to Glasgow Airport which caused its downfall

Smashing hospital BTW. I had an angiogram there last year and was very impressed with the treatment, facilities and food.
