Nothing on the website http://www.glasgowdoorsopenday.com yet but brochures are available in the Mitchell (and presumably elsewhere). A few new venues this year.

"This year for the first time in its 19 year history we have also organised associated events to take place from Monday 15th to Friday 19th September, including for example demonstrations of traditional building skills, talks, exhibitions, walks and much more! These extra events will add to the variety of the Doors Open Day eperience by giving you yet more interesting things to do and enjoy! "

There's also to be a 'photograph a door' competition.

Details seem to be on the website now, and you can download a pdf of the brochure.

Any particular recommendations of what to check out, from previous years or personal experience? The number of places is quite daunting and it's hard to know what to try and see.

You might prefer to stick to places which might hold a particular interest for you, like churches or schools or whatever. Alternatively you might choose a particular geographical area and stick to that. There are quite a few new entries this year and I guess they'll be busy so, unless you've a specific reason for going, they might be better avoided.

If they have Glasgow Sheriff Court open for the day, it's worth a visit to see how the place works. It's also close to other places which have participated in the past (e.g. the mosque) so it's possible to do 3 or 4 in an afternoon - or it was the last time.

I'm leading three tours:

 Glasgow’s (Animal) Magic Walk, from St Andrew’s in the Square, 1 St Andrew’s Square, on Saturday at 11am: For younger students of architectural heritage, and their attendant adults, a safari through the City centre on the trail of sculptures of animals in and on Glasgow's buildings. To make space for as many children as possible we are limiting the number of adults to one per child. To get the best possible experience of this walk bring binoculars, telescopes or zoom cameras!

 A Mossman Miscellany Walk, from Tobacco Merchant’s House, 42 Miller Street, on Saturday at 2pm: An appreciation of the immense contribution to the City centre of Glasgow made by the Mossman family of sculptors, who produced free-standing statues and architectural sculpture for many significant buildings.

 The Mysterious East Walk, from St Andrew’s in the Square, 1 St Andrew’s Square, on Sunday at 2pm: An exploration of Calton and Bridgeton, Glasgow's first industrial suburbs, bringing their history and heritage back into the story of the city.

Working, working, working. Bugger! The 'Animal Magic ' walk will be a great day out. For all you single folk, borrow a child for the day.

Aye we could put Fossil in a set of reins.

OK. I'm happy to do this - if someone else offers to organise it.
